Photograph caption dated March 28, 1988 reads, "'I thought I was dead': Pat Carmody, 25, of Redondo Beach said he saw his life flash before his eyes when the single-engine plane he was a passenger in yesterday lost power after takeoff from Torrance Municipal Airport. The plane crashed into a row of trees in a yard near the airport, but none of the three people aboard suffered serious injury."
