Description
Digest of important news items that reached the San Francisco regional office, such as a proposal to send Japanese American incarcerees to work on beet fields, and concerns from communities around incarceration camps about the incarerees roaming outside camp confines. The collection contains material used by Carey McWilliams in writing the book, Prejudice: Japanese Americans, symbol of racial intolerance (Little, Brown, 1944). It includes U.S. War Relocation Authority records, confidential reports, bibliographies, clippings and compilations of articles, legal papers, correspondence between McWilliams and Japanese American incarcerees, camp newspapers and other publications, two copies of his book, and five copies of the 1994 videocassette (40 min.), Something Strong Within.
