Description
This is an illustration of the house of E.B. Crocker and his wife Margaret at the corner of 3rd and O streets. Crocker had the building that already existed on the site renovated by architect Seth Babson in 1872. During E.B. Crocker’s lifetime, the couple operated part of their home as a private gallery to display their personal collection of fine art. Several years after her husband’s death, Margaret Crocker established the E.B. Crocker Art Gallery as a public art museum. The museum, greatly expanded in the first few years of the 21st century, continues to operate under the name Crocker Art Museum and houses an eclectic collection featuring art from around the globe and spanning thousands of years.
