Description
Abijah Willard's Orderly Book [and] A Journal on the Intended Expedition to Nova Scotia. The orderly book covers April 28, 1755 to January 5, 1756. The volume concerns the British capture of Ft. Beauséjour, Nova Scotia.
The journal was published as Journal of Abijah Willard, 1755, ed. John C. Webster (St. John, N.B., 1930?).
In 1745, Abijah Willard (1724-1789) of Lancaster, Worcester County, Mass. served at the siege of Louisbourg as a captain in the 4th Massachusetts Regiment. In 1755, he captained a provincial regiment deployed at the siege of Fort Beauséjour. Promoted to colonel, he spent the rest of the war in charge of a regiment under Timothy Ruggles. In April 1775, he offered his services to the British army, and in 1784 evacuated to Nova Scotia.
