George J. Ainsworth was an important figure in the development of the area's railroads, being one of the principal backers of the Redondo Railway which was incorporated in 1889.
USS Charleston (second with that name) was built in 1888 by Union Iron Works, San Francisco; was United States protected cruiser; loss by wrecking in 1899.
