Description
Photograph of a view of Main Street looking south from Sixth Street, ca.1908. Main Street is at center and disappears into the distance at right. There are two sets of streetcar tracks running down the middle of the road, and two streetcars are visible down the road at center. There are several early-model automobiles parked along the sides of the road and many horse-drawn vehicles are present as well. The sidewalks that run along the sides of the road are crowded with pedestrians. The buildings in the foreground are one- and two-story structures, while those further in the background are taller. Many of the buildings in the foreground have awnings reaching out over the sidewalk. In the close middle, at left, the Burbank Theatre can be seen at 548 South Main Street. In the background, at center, the Santa Fe and Pacific Electric buildings are visible at 6th Street. Legible signs include, from left to right, "Burbank Theatre [?] Company in America for the Prices", "Drink Coca Cola", "532", "Western Hdwe & Arms Co.", "Beacon Light Co. Gas & Electric Fixtures", "Suitcases", "Souvenirs", "Winkler Curios", "Newberrys 558", "No Scene Twice Seen Kite Shaped Track Santa Fe", "Kerckhoff - Cuzner Mill & Lumber Co.
