Description
1989-1235. In: [Scenes of Sacramento] [manuscript] / Eugene Walter Hepting. [Sacramento, Calif. : E. Hepting, 1938?], Vol. C, 23. Focus is a tall two story building; on the first floor is a business with a sign "Shoe Repairing Co."; next door on the right is another one story business with a sign "Cigar Stor", cut off by the side of the photo; second floor of principal building features three arched windows flanked by pillaster-like elements; above windows is a decorative frieze and an entablature ends the building, which overhangs the building a little. Walter Hepting was born in Sacramento (father was from Switzerland, mother from Germany). Worked for the State Treasurer's Office. Was amateur historian, collected old photographs and images of Sacramento. "1009 7th street. Erected in 1868.by.N.D. Goodell, architect. Old Pioneer Hall, organization met here composed of early pioneers of the '49'ers Capt. J.A. Sutter was an honorary and life member of this organization. His old cannon which he brought with him from 'the Sandwich Islands', he donated and to-day it still is fastened to the outside of the building."
