Popular Democratic Front presidential Candidate Ángel Aníbal Guevara raises his hands and looks up to the sky as he speaks to a crowd. Behind him there are sevaral men standing against the wall. Many of those men are wearing sunglasses. On March 8, 1982 he won the presidential election although electoral fraud was claimed by other parties. A military coup prevented Guevara from assuming power and installed a three-man junta headed by General Efraín Ríos Montt. Detrás de él se observa a varios hombres parados con sus espaldas hacia la pared. Muchos de ellos portan lentes de sol. El 8 de marzo de 1982, Guevara ganó las elecciones presidenciales aunque otros partidos reclamaron fraude electoral. Un golpe de estado militar previnó que Guevara asumiera el poder e instaló una junta de tres militares encabezada por el general Efraín Ríos Montt.
