Photograph was edited for publication purposes. Los Alamitos Race Course held its first pari mutuel met in 1951. The race track was owned by Frank Vessels Sr., a general contractor who built the race course on his 435-acre ranch in Cypress, California. In the mid-1980s the course was bought by Frank Allred and in 2014 the track was expanded. The track hosts thoroughbred and quarter horse racing. Photograph used for an article date stamped April 8, 1964; the caption reads "This setting shown at opening day of the Los Alamitos quarter-horse meet last year, is typical of what will be in store for race fans this year when the track opens tomorrow for its 29-day meeting. First post is 1 p.m."
