Description
Freekick replica program for the 20th anniversary of the inaugural MLS game: San Jose Earthquakes vs. D.C. United on April 2, 2016 at Avaya Stadium. Cover photo shows the 1996 San Jose Clash team photo. Contents include a story about Peter Bridgwater's influence on soccer in the Bay Area including a 1990 match at Stanford between the United States and the USSR, player mugshots and team rosters from both 2016 and 1996, recollections of the inaugural MLS game by San Jose fans, a story from Quakes General Manager John Doyle, photo selections from the inaugural match including Clash #11 forward Eric Wynalda who scored the first ever MLS goal, a comparison between MLS from 20 years ago to 2016 including the countdown clock and the shootout, and updates on some of the 1996 players like Wynalda, Paul Bravo, Doyle, Jeff Baicher and Troy Dayak.
