Shades of L.A. is an archive of photographs representing the contemporary and historic diversity of families in Los Angeles. Images were chosen from family albums and include daily life, social organizations, work, personal and holiday celebrations, and migration and immigration activities. Title supplied by cataloger.; Image is a reproduction. Members of the Westview Hospital Women's Guild stand in front of the stage at Club Alabam, a nightclub at 42nd and Central Avenue. Verna is the fifth from right. The racially integrated hospital, planned for 54th and Main Streets, was never built due to a lack of money; the land was paid for and a basement was put in but there wasn't enough for the building.
