Photograph was edited for publication purposes. Los Alamitos Race Course held its first pari mutuel met in 1951. The race track was owned by Frank Vessels Sr., a general contractor who built the race course on his 435-acre ranch in Cypress, California. In the mid-1980s the course was bought by Frank Allred and in 2014 the track was expanded. The track hosts thoroughbred and quarter horse racing. Photograph caption date stamped April 11, 1964 reads "A bronze bust in honor of Frank Vessels Sr., founder of the Los Alamitos Race Course, is shown as it was unveiled recently by David J. Baker, Orange County supervisor, when friends established the Frank Vessels Sr. Foundation honoring him. Vessels died last year." The race course is in Cypress.
