Description
This was the oldest jail in California built on the old Gardner property after the second Mission Santa Clara site was erected near the present Santa Clara depot in 1818. The structure was razed on January 12, 1922. This image was taken as workmen were advancing to demolish the sturcture. The jail was a two-room adobe structure where one room was the prison proper, the other room was used as the kitchen.
