Photograph caption dated April 27, 1955 reads "Latest recreation park developed by the City of Los Angeles at Paxton street and Laurel Canyon boulevard is on site where Sahara Desert scenes were made with Rudolph Valentino as star of early day flickers. Jerry Wanek, gardener and caretaker of 40-acre park slated for opening, does clean-up chore near new clubhouse, left." The park, located at 10736 Laurel Canyon Boulevard, is now named Ritchie Valens Recreation Center.
