Photograph article dated December 20, 1962 partially reads, "The new 5.7 mile San Diego Freeway link between the Valley and West Los Angeles will be open...The new section was built as part of an 11.9 mile project costing more than $20 million. Approximately 18 million cubic yards of earth were moved in cutting the route through the Santa Monica Mountains. The new route connects Sunset Blvd. in West Los Angeles to the existing Ventura Freeway just south of Ventura Blvd." Northbound view of I-405 towards Ventura Freeway exit.
