Northridge Receiving Hospital, later renamed Northridge Hospital, then Northridge Hospital Medical Center, was founded by Dr. Frederick Gruneck in 1955. Photograph caption dated February 23, 1957 reads, "Scene of Encino shooting - Officer R. S. Lodge points in direction from which mystery shot struck David J. Murphy of 5358 Louise Ave., Encino, today. Murphy was working on rotary mower when bullet struck. Pillow and blanket in background were used for victim's comfort until ambulance arrived."
