Photograph caption dated October 24, 1956 reads, "Mrs. Ida Belle Smith, 81, of 10406 Scoville St., Sunland, tries to coax parakeet, 'Cody,' back into Republican fold after bird, who once said 'Cody is a Republican' and 'I Like Ike,' was taught to say 'Cody is a Democrat' by neighbor's parakeet. Mrs. Smith holds joking reply from President Eisenhower who enjoyed letter about incident."
