Photograph caption dated May 25, 1963 reads "Members of the confirmation class of the Verdugo Hills Hebrew Center, Tujunga, Ellisa Ruth Soll and Paul Groman, Sunland, stand in prayer before the open Ark as Rabbi Melvin L. Goldstine, spiritual leader, holds Torah. Eight students were confirmed at the synagogue's ceremonies Friday evening. In many Valley Jewish congregations confirmation is held on or about the Shavuot holiday that commemorates the Revelation of the Torah at Mt. Sinai in the days of Moses. The Shavuot festival begins Tuesday evening and concludes at sundown Thursday."
