Description
Photograph of the side and front of the Old Mill Market on Throckmorton and Old Mill Avenues, with members of the Mill Valley Historical Society standing across the street. The view of the building depicts an old trail map on the side. William and Minna Thran purchased the store at 332 Throckmorton Ave, Mill Valley, California, on May 24, 1949 and at that time the map was already there. They remodeled the store about 1952 and covered up the sign with shingles. It was uncovered later on in 2004 as the building was prepared for demolition. According to an article in the Marin Independent Journal from December 31, 2014, "It was a local grocery store, and hikers would go to get supplies and ask, 'How do I get to the top of Mount Tamalpais?' and the like," said Mill Valley Parks Supervisor Brandon Stewart. "So the proprietor painted a trail map on the side of the building to answer their questions."
