Linguist and ethnographer, Rev. Paul Olaf Bodding, born 11/02/1865 in Gjøvik, Norway. In 1889 B Sprogforsker og etnograf Paul Olaf Bodding, født 2.11.1865 i Gjøvik, Norge. I 1889 blev Bodding cand. theol og rejste herefter til Santalistan, hvor han blev missionspræst og bestyrer af stationen i Mohulpahari. Blev formand for Missionen i 1910, da Lars Olsen Skrefsrud døde. Paul Olaf Bodding har oversat Bibelen til santal-sproget, undtagen de 4 evangelier, som Skrefsrud oversatte. Bibelen blev færdiggjort i 1915. Bodding har desuden udarbejdet flere lingvistiske og arkæologiske værker. Medlem af Asiatic Society of Bengal 1893, Medlem af Vidensskabsselskabet i Kria 1904, og livsvarigt medlem af The British and Foreign Bible Society fra 1907. Forlod Indien 1934. Død i Danmark, 1938. Linguist and ethnographer, Rev. Paul Olaf Bodding, born 11/02/1865 in Gjøvik, Norway. In 1889 Bodding became BD in Theology. He traveled to Santalistan, where he worked as a mission pastor and leader of the station in Mohulpahari. Became chairman of the mission in 1910, when Lars Olsen Skrefsrud died. Paul Olaf Bodding has translated the Bible into Santali language, except the 4 gospels, translated by Skrefsrud. The Bible was completed in 1915. Bodding also wrote several linguistic and archaeological books. Member of the Asiatic Society of Bengal 1893, Member of the Scientific Society in Kria 1904, and from 1907 a lifetime member of the British and Foreign Bible Society. Left India 1934. Died in Denmark, 1938. (Photo 1916).
