Description
This is a circa-1960 photograph of Herbert E. Goodpastor, a Sacramento architect between 1936 and 1964. One of his most entertaining personal projects was the art deco-style Colonial Theater at 3522 Stockton Blvd., opened June 7, 1940. In October 1948, the Manor Theatre, designed by Goodpastor and his firm, became the first movie house in the south area. It was built as part of a shopping center at 5677 Stockton Blvd. and screened movies for nearly 40 years. Goodpastor served on the Sacramento City Planning Commission in 1947 and 1951 and the Capitol Mall Committee in 1951. The 1926 University of California at Berkeley graduate also served with the United States Marine Corps during World War II.
