Description
Misrecorded in the museum collection as: Old Saloon in Niles with big redwood posts and some Niles folks, circa 1910-12. Original, vintage. This mystery building seems not to have been in Niles at all but a product of wishful thinking. The style of rustic log pillars on a concrete base was used at the 1909 Exposition in Seattle, the 1915 Panama-Pacific International Exposition in San Francisco, and for college clubhouses in the West. This picture appears to be the latter, and perhaps a scion of a Niles family is one of those lounging in a Jack London-style necktie. From the collection of Egizra Di Guilio Ragghiante.
