Photograph article dated May 16, 1963 partially reads, "A swimming pool is becoming as much a part of a home in Southern California as a washing machine or air conditioner. And that seems to be the case especially in the San Fernando Valley - The Swimming Pool Capital of the World. 'Of the 13-14,000 pools to be built in Southern California this year, 25 to 30 per cent will be built in the Valley,' said an official of a North Hollywood pool contracting firm. It seems obvious why pools are so popular here. It's usually warmer in the Valley than elsewhere in Los Angeles. And with the jammed freeways making it more difficult to get to the beach, the best place to cool off is right in the back-yard." Photograph caption reads, "Swimming pool often reflects owner's personality. One Valley contractor offers 140 stock shapes of pools, as well as custom designs."
