Description
1989-1227. In: [Scenes of Sacramento] [manuscript] / Eugene Walter Hepting. [Sacramento, Calif. : E. Hepting, 1938?], Vol. C, leaf 14. In the foreground at the right a palm tree reaches above the tallest buildings; behind the tree is a wood plank building with street level busineses, two of which have open awnings and one with an awning but not opened; on the second floor are vertical windows corresponding to the businesses below; above second business on ground floor is a sign in Chinese; next to it on right is a striped open awning and two men are standing beneath it, one on each side of the palm tree; on the left is a two story building with an arched entry on the right and two windows on the left of the entrance; above are two vertical windows with a lintel above; behind the wooden planked building another building appears with four visible windows and an entablature on top. Walter Hepting was born in Sacramento (father was from Switzerland, mother from Germany). Worked for the State Treasurer's Office. Was amateur historian, collected old photographs and images of Sacramento. "Large brick building in back of the palm-tree was the home of Mark Twain in the year 1866."
