The big exodus of Japanese to the vast hinterland of the Owens Valley began March 21, 1942, as 86 skilled men and women started their trip to the mushrooming evacuation city of Manzanar. This photo shows some of them boarding buses at Maryknoll School, beginning what was the greatest forced migration in American history.
