Photographic portrait of Sherman Otis Houghton (S.O. Haughton), ca.1890-1900. He is visible from the chest up turned three-quarters to the left. He can be seen wearing a light-colored shirt with a dark bow tie, vest, and jacket. He is bald on top but with medium-length hair at sides and in back. He has a full beard and moustache. He lived from 1828 to 1914. Born in New York City, N.Y., April 10, 1828, he was a republican. He was Mayor of San Jose, California, 1855 U.S. Representative from California, 1871-75 (1st District 1871-73, 4th District 1873-75). He died in Compton, Los Angeles County, California, August 31, 1914.
