Description
From the first page: "Why is cannery work so urgent? This year, the Armed Forces must have 70% of California's canned fruits, 50% of its canned vegetables -- something like one billion cans -- half as much again as they required in 1943. The reason: more men than ever are overseas -- millions of men. Men who need canned food upon which to live -- and to fight! But fruits and vegetables won't wait for workers. When they ripen, the peak comes with a rush -- and workers must be in the canneries or the crop is lost. This year the cannery labor shortage is more than serious, it's critical -- and emergency that somehow must be met. That's why cannery work is so urgent." Includes a list of directory of canneries in the San Jose, Modesto, Palo Alto-Sunnyvale, East Bay, Stockton, Lower San Joaquin Valley, and Sacramento areas.
