Description
A group of Mayan men, women and children attend a campaign rally for presidential candidate Ángel Aníbal Guevara. Many in the crowd are wearing colorful clothing. On March 8, 1982 Guevara won the presidential election although electoral fraud was claimed by other parties. A military coup prevented Guevara from assuming power and installed a three-man junta headed by General Efraín Ríos Montt. El 8 de marzo de 1982, Guevara ganó las elecciones presidenciales aunque otros partidos reclamaron fraude electoral. Un golpe de estado militar impidió que Guevara asumiera el poder e instaló una junta de tres hombres encabezada por el general Efraín Ríos Montt.
