Shades of L.A. is an archive of photographs representing the contemporary and historic diversity of families in Los Angeles. Images were chosen from family albums and include daily life, social organizations, work, personal and holiday celebrations, and migration and immigration activities. Made possible and accessible through the generous support of the Security Pacific National Bank, Sunlaw Cogeneration Partners, Photo Friends, California Council for the Humanities, the Ralph M. Parsons Foundation, and the John Randolph Haynes and Dora Haynes Foundation.
Image is a reproduction. Pictured is Norman Steinman at the Edwards Rexall Pharmacy. He is seen in front of the drugstore at night, leaning just outside the front door in his pharmacy coat. The drugstore is lit up, and a portion of the neon signs can be seen at top left of the photograph. The top of the window reads, "Owl Rexall drugs prescriptions", underneath on either side of the window are “drink Coca Cola” signs. The writing below the window reads, "Rx emergency delivery EX. 7-283." Other advertisements can be seen taped on the inside of the storefront. The location was possibly 3973 Sepulveda Boulevard, Culver City, California. Photograph circa 1954.
