Description: Buache's fanciful map of the relation between Asia and North America, which he calls "New France." This was from his address to the Academy of Sciences introducing many fallacies: De Fonte's voyage; the Sea of the West; and incorporating Companie Land and Grande Terre off the north coast of Siberia. This map was widely copied and debated for the next 26 years until Cook's discoveries proved it full of errors. MS note: X71146. Prime meridian: Paris. Relief: pictorial.
