Description
Photograph article dated January 4, 1963 partially reads, "Culture, rarely considered California's most important product, has a new and powerful friend in the Legislature: Assembly Speaker Jesse M. Unruh. For months Unruh has been detouring in his public speeches from such subjects as water and welfare to touch on the state of the arts in California. With the amount of leisure time increasing, Unruh would suggest, the state should not evade its responsibility for helping to make that time worthwhile."; See image #00121891 for additional photo in this series.
