This photograph is contained in one of two volumes by Dobbin titled "Album of San Francisco."
Text written under photo: "M H de Young presenting medals to Boy Scouts 1917." The ceremony is taking place on the stage of the Exposition Auditorium, whose balcony is draped with patriotic bunting. Chronicle publisher Michael H. De Young is pinning a medal on a scout whose number is 53; other scouts wait their turn. A man dressed as Uncle Sam is standing on the other side of a table from De Young.
