Description
This December 2, 1947, photograph shows Goodwill Industries at 1117-1121 Sixth Street. The Goodwill had been operating in Sacramento since November of 1933 and moved out of the pictured 11,000 square-foot structure in 1949 for a new facility at 1625 Seventh Street. The building on the left was the home of the Hook and Ladder House Number One. Founded in 1872 under the leadership of Chief Engineer William B. Hunt, the fire house operated with one four-wheeled truck and four truckmen who did duty only in the case of fire.
