Description
Moira Chaffey was Ontario founder George Chaffey's niece. Her father was Ellswood Chaffey, Ontario's first physician. Ms. Chaffey was born in Ontario, California, but at age seven moved to Mexico where her father practiced medicine for a mining company until his death. Ms. Chaffey returned to Ontario around 1919, when she was about 37 years old. In this interview, Ms. Chaffey discusses her uncles George and William Benjamin, the founding of Ontario, California, and the Chaffey family. Some of her statements about the Chaffey family and Ontario are incorrect, which are noted in the transcription. Ms. Chaffey also discusses her experiences in Ontario since her return from Mexico.
