Entrance of the Hongwanji Japanese Buddhist temple, located at Central Avenue and First Street in Little Tokyo. Japanese lanterns, some of which depict American and Japanese flags side by side, hang outside the temple's entrance. The temple's history in Los Angeles goes back to 1905, when it was known as the Southern California Buddhist Church. Dated May 4, 1939.
