Photograph of a Hopi Indian altar with symbolic paintings of human-like figures, ca.1900. The figure at left can be seen holding a snake and a knife, while the figure at right is depicted holding a cane and some corn. Serpentine-like heads project out from the painting near the feet of the figures. Birds and the sun(?) are also depicted.
