Marion Elizabeth Rodgers discusses her biography, “Mencken.” She begins by discussing H. L. Mencken’s early issues with censorship at Harvard, and how he is known for his freedom of speech. She talks about Mencken’s legacy towards a sentimental view of Germany and Adolf Hitler. She explains that although Mencken was thought to be anti-Semitic he actually sponsored Jewish families who were fleeing Germany during Hitler’s reign. Martinson asks Rodgers to read a passage from her book about Mencken’s love life. Rodgers ends the interview by talking about Mencken’s encounters with women and his inability to commit.
