Description
"With the arrival of Dr.Henry E. Scott in Decr. of that year, a new life of hopefulness came upon the work. The Mission has now passed finally into our hands, and money was forthcoming for increased staffing, and the proper development of the work. In his prime and with his 17 years of wide experience of Missionary work in Central Africa, Dr. Scott came to us full of zeal and energy. In the last three and a quarter short years, he was permitted to work at Kikuyu, he was the means of laying, wisely and strongly the foundations of a great educational and industrial work. Not only however did he work for the uplift of the native but by his work on behalf of the education of white children, his ministrations in St. Andrews Church of Nairobi on behalf of our fellow Presbyterians, and by his starting of the Y.M.C.A. he will long be remembered with gratitude by a large number of Europeans, by whom he was highly respected. By his death on April 11th 1911, at the early age of 47, we as a Mission have suffered a deep loss, but we are confident that in some mysterious way it is in accordance with the will of God, and that out of this strong arduous life so faithfully laid down for the of native and white man alike, there will come an abundant harvest on our work." Portrait of Rev Dr Henry E. Scott, at Kikuyu mission from 1907 until his death in 1911. ❧ "This Lecture was prepared by Dr J.W. Arthur in October 1911 on his voyage to Mombasa. The set of slides is the gift to the Kikuyu Mission of the Young Peoples Meeting at the Burgh Hall, Hillhead, of which he was for many years a member." A green folder marked 'Kikuyu' and containing lecture notes and relevant photographs to accompany lantern slides.
