Parking lot of the Music Box Theatre (left) located at 6126 Hollywood Blvd. The marquee in the upper left corner of the image states that the play "Porgy" by DuBose & Dorothy Heyward is being performed by a cast of 65. The play is based on DuBose Heyward's novel of the same name and is the basis for George Gershwin's opera, "Porgy & Bess", which debuted in 1935. Originally called the Carter DeHaven Music Box Theatre in 1926, this theatre has had several name changes over the decades. It became a radio studio theatre in 1936, then returned to a live theatre venue called the Music Box Theatre in the early 1940's. Before being renamed as the Henry Fonda Theatre, it was used for screening movies and was re-named the Fox and then the Pix Theatre.
