The picture shows a group of 20 people of African, European and mixed origin sitting or standing in a semi-circle, nine women and girls, two infants and nine men. In the center of the group a kind of table with dishes. Bushes in the background. The picture was taken by the missionary Franz Joseph Chleboun (born 1866, died 1945). Chleboun came to Genadendal in 1894. He served as a missionary in Enon from 1895 to 1900 and then moved to Elim where he stayed from 1901 until 1910. Thereafter he returned to Enon. In 1913 he left South Africa and returned to Europe.
