Note: Veröffetnlicht (Perregaux 1906: 57) - Als Nr. 14 publiziert im Album 'Achtzig Ansichten von der Goldküste (Westafrika) nach Originalaufnahmen des Missionars Fritz Ramseyer', Neuenburg 1895. - Bildlegende im Album: "Eine Ölpalme. - Diese Palme, die millionenweise auf der Goldküste zu finden it, trägt am Ausgang der Zweige eine grosse konische Frucht, wie der junge Mann sie trägt sie enthält eine grosse Anzahl kleiner rother Nüsse, aus welchen die Eingeborenen durch Sieden und Stampfen das Palmöl gewinnen. Es ist dies ein wichtiger Hanelsartikel, aus dem in Europa Kerzen und Seife fabriziert werden." (RI). - Caption there: "An oil palm. This variety of palm, which you can find in its millions on the Gold Coast, grows its large conical fruit at the foot of its branches. The young man is carrying such a fruit. It contains a large number of small red nuts out of which the indigenous people obtain palm oil through a process which involves boiling and pounding. Palm oil is an important commodity in trade. In Europe people make candles and soap from it."
