Title supplied by cataloger. Designed by architectural firm Pereira & Luckman with elements to maximize visual merchandising, this $3,000,000 shopping center opened in 1955. After just three decades of use, Whittier Downs Shopping Center was razed due to declining popularity. Looking northwest from Washington Boulevard (running along the lower left corner) where it crosses Norwalk Boulevard at the Whittier Downs Shopping Center in Santa Fe Springs. Some of the center's retailers include: J. C. Penney, Thrifty Drug Co., F.W. Woolworth Co., and a Food Giant supermarket. In the foreground is another shopping center, which includes a King Cole Market, designed by A. Quincy Jones. Beyond the sea of homes in West Whittier and Santa Fe Springs is the San Gabriel River.
