Photograph caption dated September 16, 1957 reads, "Join phone walkout - Members of Communication Workers of America, local 9590, in front of Pacific Telephone & Telegraph office at Magnolia boulevard and Bakman avenue hand out protest letters to employes [sic]. Phone installers walked off job in 44 states after negotiations in East with Western Electric Co. failed. Disruption of phone service in Valley area isn't expected as system is automatic."
