Description
Photograph was edited for publication purposes
Roscoe was renamed Sun Valley in 1948 and the Basilone Homes project was demolished in the late-1950s.
Photograph caption dated May 21, 1948 reads, "Paul 'Butchie' Blake, 3, tries out first new slide." The article partially reads, "'A puddle or a playground?' This was the question posed by Byron Pedersen, former chairman of the planning committee for recreation areas at the Basilone Homes in Roscoe. 'Residents of the housing project decided on a playground....' Project residents recently staged a bazaar. They raised more than $1000 with which they ordered swings and slides. Today four units have been installed and the more than 1000 youngsters can start coming out of water-filled ditches and rock-strewn fields where they have been forced to play in the past."; See images #00115234 through #00115235 for all photos in this series.
