Position statement by Peter F. Drucker presented to the Conference on Business Policy at Harvard Business School. Drucker identifies the economic dimension of a business as the distinct and distinguishing feature of business enterprise, thus setting it apart from all other modern institutions in society. He proceeds to argue that entrepreneurship is at the center of business policy and should be at the center of teaching business management. However, accepted approaches to the study and analysis of business enterprises do not go beyond traditional measures of economic dimension and economic performance, which, in Drucker's view, are peripheral, rather than central. He goes on to describe remedies to this situation regarding entrepreneurship.
