Photograph was edited for publication purposes.
Photograph caption dated May 12, 1943 reads, "Attorney seeks modification of sentence for asserted violation of her probation." Joan Barry was jailed for loitering and creating a disturbance at Charlie Chaplin's residence. Judge Charles Griffin of Beverly Hills granted Barry a modification of her 30-day sentence, allowing her to be released to the custody of her attorney.
