This view, taken with Pine Avenue in the foreground, shows the seven-story S. H. Kress variety store building. Large window displays fill the store's street level. Awnings extend over the windows and out to the sidewalk. There is a neon KRESS sign mounted on the building's corner, just above the street level (visible at far right). Large lettering painted on the side of the building at its highest point reads: "KRESS 5-10-25" STORE [with arrow pointing down]." A billboard-sized neon sign mounted on the roof of the Kress building advertises a different Long Beach department store: "Marti's, Pine & Fourth." DATE NOTES: Circa 1920's. ORIG. IMAGE: 8" x 10" B&W glossy print. NEGATIVE: Yes. KEYWORDS: Dimestores, variety.
