Photograph caption dated May 1, 1965 reads "Dr. Courtney W. Shropshire, 88, center, of Thousand Oaks, the man who founded Civitan 47 years ago, died Wednesday, a few days after this picture was taken of him attending the most recent meeting of the Reseda Civitan Club. Charles G. Johnston, left, president of TELEFLORA, the international flowers-by-wire service, and Mel Erskine, the group's vice president elect, accompanied Dr. Shropshire to the meeting." Civitan is an association of community service clubs.
