Charles Handy article on the responsibilities of corporate privilege. Handy begins the article asserting that privilege is both necessary and desirable in society. However, he also argues that privilege entails certain responsibilities. He proceeds to list and define the responsibilities that should come with a business's privilege, namely, survival for and contribution to something else beyond the organization, the restoration of dignity to work, and for corporate entities to provide the training, financing, and equipping of their personnel to pursue their skills outside the company. Allowing for these considerations would, in Handy's view, stimulate the economy and allow for a greater surplus to subsidize redistribution. In a related article, Handy expands upon the problem of dehumanization in modern organizations and calls for returning to the Christian recognition of the worth and dignity of every individual.
