Opening of Wesley College, Kumasi, Ashanti district, Gold Coast [now Ghana] by Sir F Gordon Guggisberg, R.E., C.M.G., Governor of the Gold Coast territories. Morning of 3 March, 1924. Group of the Governor's staff, missionaries and West African Ministers with a guard of honour formed by the Boy Scouts. Group includes Rev C W Armstrong, College Principal and college staff members Mr. Greaves, Vice-Principal, Ivan Blow [missionary] Rev Francis Grant [African Minister] Mr. Waterworth and Mr Enim [Kumasi district] Mr. Acquaah and Mr E. A Sackey [Sekondi district]. Methodist Missionary work in West Africa had begun in 1811 with Coke's mission to Sierra Leone. A second station was opened on the River Gambia in 1821, and on the Gold Coast in 1834.
